Marcia B. Stern, PsyD, is a psychologist, family
therapist, and international workshop leader. She is on the faculty
at Ackerman Institute for the Family, and is a clinical assistant
professor of psychiatry at the NYU School of Medicine. She received
her doctorate at Yeshiva University, trained in family therapy at
Ackerman Institute and Long Island University, and trained in behavioral
work at the Institute for Behavior Therapy. Dr. Stern has an extensive
background in educational and psychological testing and in developing
interventions for diverse populations in both school and clinical
settings.
Dr. Stern is the developer and director of Competent Kids,
Caring Classrooms: A Unique Minds Program, a primary prevention
program for grades K-5 now being implemented in various NYC schools.
The program is lively and interactive and uses innovative tools,
didactic instruction, puppets and original characters, music, movement,
role playing, class discussion, and modeling by teachers and peers.
Published works include articles about parenting issues. She is
the author, in collaboration with the Unique Minds Project, of The
Unique Minds Program for Children with Learning Disabilities and
Their Families, and is executive producer of The Unique
Minds Training Program Video. Her most recent book, Child-Friendly
Therapy: Biopsychosocial Innovations for Children and Families,
is available from WW Norton.
