The Ackerman Institute celebrates Black History Month. This year’s theme is Black Health and Wellness. We commit to keeping the mental health and wellness of Black families at the center of our work and are dedicated to helping therapists understand and address racial issues in therapy with Black families. We acknowledge the often-overlooked contributions of Black and African Americans to the mental health movement, and work to amplify Black voices in the field of couple and family therapy.
We invite you to explore Mental Health America’s non-exhaustive list of Black and African American mental health resources, including a section on Black pioneers in mental health. We are proud that Ackerman Board Member, Dr. Beverly Greene is among this list of outstanding trailblazers.
We are thrilled to present a special panel discussion moderated by Dr. Beverly Greene in recognition of Black History Month: Threading Needles in the Dark, Wearing Gloves: How Mothers of Black Children Have the Talk, Then Walk the Walk. Join us next Friday, February 18, 6:00–8:00 pm (ET).
