Expired Tantra and Ethical Considerations in Sex Therapy Practice [Online]

In our society, sexuality and spirituality are often seen as a separate practice. There is this notion that spirituality cannot include sexuality, especially from the Western Christian perspective. These two concepts put together can be both controversial and at the forefront of human thought. Typically, sex therapy is based on the biopsychosocial aspects of human conduct; however, there are professionals who are starting to consider the meaning of spirituality in sexual behavior.

Tantra is the weaving of spirit and sex. The art of Tantra is healing, it enriches one’s relationships and aids in the achievement of natural bliss as a lifestyle. Incorporating tantra into sex therapy practice is a great asset to the healing process as it allows clients to feel and process their pain through pleasure. In all of this, it is important to note ethical considerations, which this workshop will discuss from a professional and personal perspective.

Learning Objectives:

  • To learn the integration of spirituality in sex therapy
  • To learn and understand the importance of ethics when it comes to integrating spiritual and energetic practices in sex therapy
  • To learn self of the therapist tools to consider when working in spiritual and therapeutic spaces with clients
