The Ackerman Institute for the Family was founded in 1960 and is one of the premier institutions for family therapy treatment, and one of the most highly regarded training facilities for family therapists in the United States. The faculty at the Institute have achieved national prominence and earned national awards for the development of innovative approaches to family therapy and professional training.

Position Summary:

The Ackerman Institute for the Family Clinic is seeking an Outreach Coordinator who will be directly responsible for outreach and identification of minority youth aged 12 to 18, as well as their family members, from overburdened NYC school and community agency partners. The focus will be establishing relationships with referral sources and facilitating family engagement with the Ackerman Institute for the Family Clinic.

The Outreach Coordinator will use a person-centered approach designed to ameliorate the stigma often faced by people of color and marginalized communities when seeking help for mental health issues. The Outreach Coordinator will closely collaborate with school guidance counselors and teachers to identify families in need, including relationship-building; posting program materials and referral info; making in-person and virtual presentations at schools and community partner agencies; and systematically identifying and cultivating relationships in order to advocate on behalf of youth, as well as to educate key influencers about the availability of care and ways in which they can refer those experiencing problems.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work with Ackerman Leadership to develop an outreach strategy.
  • Collaborate with schools and other community-based organizations to identify families in need.
  • Create and disseminate program materials.
  • Facilitate in-person and virtual presentations at schools and community partner agencies.
  • Answer all program inquiries, forward inquiries to appropriate departments and staff.
  • Conduct screening, safety assessments, and intake appointments with clients.
  • Enroll families in services, create, maintain, and update client central database and records.
  • Conduct follow-up outreach to families when needed.
  • Liaise with clinic office and lead communication with the billing department regarding clinic services.
  • Research and provide referrals when requested.
  • Manage data to ensure accurate records; produce reports as requested.
  • Participate in monthly administrative team and training meetings when appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mental Health or B.S.W. with 2+ years of demonstrated experience preferred.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Extremely proficient in MS Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Zoom.

Work Environment:

  • This position will be based in our office in New York, NY 4 days per week with 1 day being remote.

Compensation:

Ackerman Institute for the Family offers a generous compensation package which includes:

  • $60,000 – $68,000/year.
